Her name is Françoise Nielly, and she is an incredible knife painter from Marseille, France. For those unfamiliar with knife painting, it consists of applying paint to a canvas using a knife palette, sort of like putting butter on bread. This method allows the artist to created incredibly textured paintings, with different levels.
Having worked in advertising for many years, at a certain point in her life she decided that she had had enough of the corporate world and left her office life and her boring black briefcase for a studio and a palette full of vibrant reds, greens, yellows and every color in between. Her paintings are extraordinarily creative; each one full of vivid shapes, colorful blotches and jagged edges, all coming together to create beautiful portraits full of life and expression.
